autumn walk

What a difference in the weather in just a week. Last Sunday we went for a walk in warm and mellow Autumn sunshine and today it’s cold and rainy. The walk was a bit of a trip down memory lane for me. My mum is moving house and area, away from the town where I grew up and I wanted to take my children on a walk I did many times as a child.

A short distance from the house were market gardens and fields (some of these have now been built on) and then past them countryside. I felt myself to be a country girl when I was a child and loved the freedom of roaming in the fields, building dens with my friends and taking the dog for a walk or cycling along country lanes.

This is the view back to the town.

Back in my mum’s garden there were bright vibrant colours and buzzing bees.

How strong the links to the geography of our childhood? I have lived in my current house longer than I lived in my mum’s house but the memories of my walks and games in the local countryside have made a deep imprint.
