Each doll is unique and individual. They are available with different skin tones and hair colours and can have either open or closed eyes. All of the clothes are re-moveable and every doll has lace trimmed underwear.

There are different ranges of doll:

“Frock” these wear colourful dresses made from vintage fabrics.

“Folk” these dolls wear skirts and blouses with either a cape or jacket all made from vintage and reclaimed fabrics.

“Party” these dolls wear dresses made from silks, taffetas and chiffons and have tiaras made from wire and beads.

I make small squirrels measuring about 25 cm from head to toe and medium squirrels measuring about 30cm.

I decided that I wanted my button to reflect my work and also the theme of the Barnaby Festival, Metamorphosis. I hate to throw any scrap away and my button is a transformation of tiny pieces of fabric into a functioning and decorative piece.

It is made from denim, cotton and silk with delicate hand embroidered details and has a brass ring loop at the back for fastening.

I have a small collection of buttons myself and do like organising them in jars and tins. They are just waiting to be used in some project or other.

Yesterday I spent some time pruning the overgrown honey suckle in the garden and looking for signs of Spring.

Today I went to the allotment to sort out the soft fruit bed and plant a red gooseberry bush. There’s still no blossom on the plum trees, but I think the buds will soon be out and the rhubarb is nearly ready to pick. When digging at the allotment I find lots of pottery which I either put on the paths or save in special places along with other allotment finds.

It’s been National Gardening Week this week, not that I need an excuse to get gardening, it’s one of my favourite ways to relax.

It was lovely to catch up with some of the exhibitors I met last year, I was so pleased to have a stand next to Sue Bulmer (thanks for all the support and creative chats!) and make new friends. I didn’t get the chance to fully explore the whole fair, my one regret, but from what I did see I thought there was a great standard and diversity of work, a few photos here, here and here.

Materials and tools

You will need washi tape in various colours and designs (if you don’t have washi tape you could use strips of paper), card, scissors (if you want to cut the card), pens

Method

Cut your card to the desired size and select the washi tape you are going to use.

Tear off 7 strips of tape, reducing in size. First stick down the longest strip that will be central strip of the egg, then add the others, alternating colours and patterns.

Finally draw an egg shape around the tape and add your greeting.

You can use as many combinations as you like, here’s a few that I tried.

This was the second opportunity I’ve had to use my new banner and I’m really pleased with how it compliments my stand.

There were lots of lovely exhibitors and I managed to get few photos. Pictured below are Table to Dine For, 160º and Rising, Babes in the Woods, Retro Press, Charlie’s Country Garden, Emily’s Best, The Flower Girls, Gemma Sangwine, Pete Cranston Photography and Little Wooden Stool. I’ve never found dolls spooky, sinister or odd so didn’t want mine to have that feel but neither did I want them to be cute. I decided to use new fabric for the bodies, sewing in ‘knees’ and ‘elbows’ to give the limbs some articulation. I hand embroidered the simple facial features.

For the hair I have used merino wool.

The dolls’ clothes are made from vintage and reclaimed fabrics. I love sorting through my collection of fabrics and selecting which to use. I made the dolls pants and edged them with cotton and lace trim and shoes made from felt with ribbon ties.
