summer party preparations

This week I’m busy, busy, busy getting ready for my Summer Party that’s this Saturday (eek!). I have bought a few decorations as I knew I wouldn’t have time to make everything and I really love all the paper decs that are around, I got mine from here.

I have made some paper bunting and thought I would share my idea.

Equipment

scissors

doily punch

guillotine

sticky tape

Materials

paper doilies, different sizes

comics

cards

string

You could use any combination of paper products to make the bunting but I chose comics and doilies. Comics because this reflects my guy’s lifelong passion for them and doilies because, well I have a bit of a thing for doilies! I also had some invitations left over and wanted to incorporate these into the decorations.

Technique

Cut the comics or paper into different sized rectangles. I used whole pages of the comics and also half pages. Also cut the larger paper doilies in half and cut the cards. I used the guillotine to cut the cards as it gives a cleaner cut. You could just use your paper plain but I couldn’t resist creating a punched edge to the comics (this doily edge punch is one of my favourite gadgets at the moment!)

To attach the paper to the string simply fold over a small section at the top and stick down with sticky tape. To attach the cards run the string along the top and fold the sticky tape over it.

Mix up the order of the cards, paper and doilies and spread them out along the length of the string. You don’t have to have even gaps between them and just make the length you want (I made loads!) There are some photos of the bunting at the party venue here.

This is a great craft activity for kids and my daughter made some bunting for the party “sweet shop”. She punched around the edge of white paper and then wrote letters on it to create the sweet shop sign. As this was a shorter length of bunting she attached the paper to cotton tape.
